In most of my recipes, I use plain, nonfat Greek yogurt as a mayo substitute. However, there are a few recipes that need mayo, as yogurt just doesn’t taste right.
I generally stay away from unhealthy, store bought ingredients, but I have a few favorite recipes I just couldn’t resist adding to the blog. So instead of omitting the recipe or recommending that readers use store bought mayo, I decided to make my own!
If you’re curious how to make homemade mayonnaise, it’s incredibly easy, and it’s a wonder that not everyone makes their own. All you need are 5 ingredients: egg yolks, lemon juice, dijon mustard, olive oil and coconut oil. That’s it!
How to Make Homemade Mayonnaise (only 5 Ingredients!) | Print |
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 tsp dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- ½ cup olive oil
- ½ cup coconut oil (melted)
- Sea salt for seasoning
- Combine the egg yolks, mustard, lemon juice and salt in a blender or food processor.
- Very slowly drizzle in the olive oil and coconut oil, drop by drop, until the mixture begins to form a mayonnaise texture.
- Refrigerate for up to one week.
