My love of chocolate is one of the things that inspired me to start this blog. It all started when I learned you can make your own healthy chocolate from home, with only 4 ingredients! Next thing you know, I’m whipping up pasta noodles from zucchinis, ice cream from coconut milk, and tater tots from cauliflower. Who knew?

To make your own homemade sea salt dark chocolate, you only need cocoa powder (or cacao powder), coconut oil, sweetener, and non-dairy butter. And, of course, sea salt!

For the non-dairy butter, Earth Balance is a great brand that has all different types of non-dairy spreads (vegan butter, coconut butter, and cinnamon butter!) You can also use peanut butter or any type of nut butter.

For this recipe, I use mostly coconut palm sugar (it contains over 40% less fructose than cane sugar) and 1 tbsp of pure maple syrup. You also may want to play around with how much sweetener and salt you add so you get just the right amount for your taste buds.

This is a great recipe to bookmark, because you can use it for sooo many healthy snacks! Chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate chip cookies, and homemade peanut butter cups are a few of my favorites!

Homemade Sea Salt Dark Chocolate
Recipe type: Dessert, Snack
  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup coconut palm sugar
  • 2 tbsp non-dairy butter
  • 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • Dash of sea salt
  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the coconut oil, coconut sugar and coconut butter over low heat. Remove from heat and add cocoa powder and sea salt, stirring until smooth.
  2. Pour chocolate mixture into mold. (If you don’t have a chocolate mold, you can line a plate or baking pan with parchment paper or tin foil and pour in chocolate.)
  3. Chill in the refrigerator or freezer for 10-15 minutes until hardened.
  4. Store in refrigerator or freezer.
